A real estate closing is the final step in the home buying or selling process. It is the moment when ownership of the property officially transfers from the seller to the buyer. During closing, all legal documents are signed, payments are completed, and the keys are handed over.


1. Final Review of Documents

Before signing, the buyer and seller review important documents related to the transaction. These may include the purchase agreement, loan documents, property disclosures, and the final closing statement.


2. Signing the Paperwork

Both parties will sign several legal documents required to complete the sale. Buyers typically sign mortgage documents and loan agreements, while sellers sign documents transferring ownership of the property.


3. Payment of Closing Costs

Closing costs are paid during this stage. These costs may include lender fees, title services, insurance, property taxes, and other administrative expenses.


4. Transfer of Funds

The buyer’s lender sends the mortgage funds, and the buyer provides the remaining balance of the purchase price. Once the funds are verified, the transaction can move forward.


5. Title Transfer

The property title is officially transferred from the seller to the buyer. This step confirms the new legal owner of the home.


6. Recording the Transaction

The completed documents are recorded with the local government office or county records. This ensures that the property ownership change becomes part of the official public record.


7. Receiving the Keys

After all documents are signed and funds are confirmed, the buyer receives the keys to the property. This marks the official completion of the home purchase.
