Closing day comes faster than most people expect. The last 30 days before closing are critical to avoid stress, delays, and costly mistakes. Use this checklist as a simple, week-by-week guide.

✅ 30 Days Before Closing

  • Review your purchase agreement and closing timeline carefully.

  • Avoid major financial changes. Do not open new credit cards, finance appliances, or change jobs.

  • Start decluttering. Donate, sell, or throw away items you do not want to move.

  • Request time off work for moving day and closing if needed.

  • Research and get quotes from moving companies or truck rentals.

✅ 21–25 Days Before Closing

  • Book your movers or reserve a moving truck.

  • Begin packing non-essential items like seasonal clothes, decor, and storage items.

  • Gather important documents such as IDs, contracts, insurance papers, and loan documents.

  • Notify schools if children are transferring.

  • Arrange childcare or pet care for moving day.

✅ 14–20 Days Before Closing

  • Set up utilities at your new home (electricity, water, internet, gas).

  • Schedule utility disconnection for your current home.

  • Change your address with the post office.

  • Update your address with banks, credit cards, subscriptions, and insurance providers.

  • Confirm your final walk-through schedule with your realtor.

✅ 7–13 Days Before Closing

  • Pack daily-use items but keep essentials accessible.

  • Label boxes clearly by room.

  • Confirm moving day details with movers or helpers.

  • Prepare a “first-night box” with toiletries, chargers, clothes, medications, and important documents.

  • Clean the home or schedule professional cleaning if required.

✅ 1–6 Days Before Closing

  • Do your final walk-through to ensure repairs are complete and the home condition is as agreed.

  • Transfer or confirm homeowner’s insurance.

  • Review your closing disclosure and ask questions if anything is unclear.

  • Prepare funds needed for closing according to lender instructions.

  • Confirm key pickup and access details.

✅ Closing Day

  • Bring valid ID and required documents.

  • Sign final paperwork.

  • Receive keys once funding is confirmed.

  • Celebrate. You are officially a homeowner.

Pro Tip

Keep all moving and closing documents in one folder (physical or digital). Organization in the last 30 days prevents last-minute panic.
